About the event
The Restoration of the monarchy in 1660 saw a rapid expansion of the London theatrical scene. The period saw increased opportunity for composers such as Henry Purcell to provide incidental music and dances for plays and masques, all adding to the grand spectacles that became typical of Restoration Theatre.
